The Context
With over 18,000 employees and operating in more than 100 countries around the globe, Allergan is a truly multinational Pharmaceutical leader.
As a long-standing Bonner customer, the services we provide the company have evolved over the course of 25 years. Initially, we supplied Allergan with instrumentation calibration and maintenance on an on-demand basis, working on site when requested. Although this ensured excellent standards and prompt service, the quality department found that the administration and the paperwork required to adhere to industry regulations, particularly those of the FDA and HPRA, were onerous and complex. The team was seeking a new approach, one where this responsibility could be outsourced to a trusted third party.
The Response
Based on our close relationship with Allergan, we developed a customised version of the Bonner Instrumentation Programme to meet the company’s exact needs. Devising a flexible scheme that allowed for increases and decreases in capacity in line with monthly variations, the solution prescribes that all calibration and maintenance is planned in advance and that all documentation is completed and supplied to the client within an agreed timeframe.
In collaboration with Allergan’s quality, maintenance, facilities and management teams, our scheduling follows in-house timelines, taking advantage of planned shutdown or cleaning phases to minimise any impact on production.
We deliver added value by supporting the client in a number of other ways too. Our technicians offer instrumentation advice and expertise to the engineering team across a variety of on-site projects. We source and supply instrumentation products for daily maintenance and for one-off requirements. Acting as an extended member of the team, we also attend and participate in internal meetings regarding planning and reporting for calibration and maintenance . With an in-depth knowledge of Allergan’s plant operations and processes, our team can offer informed, expert guidance on future improvements and day-to-day procedures, such as balancing of calibrations, schedule frequency and critical or non-critical assessments of instrumentation.
The Results
Since initiating the programme, Allergan has experienced no audit deviations in relation to calibrations. All instrumentation data and service documentation is electronically processed through ProCalV5, our calibration management software, and is ready for viewing by the client within 24 hours of completion via our dedicated online portal. The burden of continuous monitoring and documentation has been removed from the quality team and is now placed in our expert hands.
Under the provision of the Bonner Instrumentation Programme, we have assumed responsibility for Allergan’s entire instrumentation calibration and maintenance obligations, along with the associated documentation and reporting – giving the client peace of mind and saving time and money.
